Behind the Chair: Meet Erin Sherriff – From Trainee to Graduate Stylist in the Making

If you’ve been in the salon recently, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Erin in action, shampooing, blow drying, chatting to clients, or keeping everything flowing smoothly behind the scenes. But there’s more to Erin than just a warm smile and a good eye for colour.

She joined Hair in the City back in March 2024 as a trainee stylist, bringing loads of enthusiasm and a real willingness to learn. As part of her training, Erin assists our stylists with everything from applying colour to managing bookings and phone calls, all the while picking up techniques, tips, and tricks from the experienced team around her.

Alongside her hands-on work in the salon, Erin is also completing her SCQF Level 5 Hairdressing qualification. That means she heads off to college every second week to focus on practical assessments and fine-tune her core skills. The rest of her learning happens right here in the salon, where she’s guided every step of the way, not only by the team, but by Louise herself.

With over 23 years in the hairdressing industry, Louise has personally mentored every stylist in the salon, sharing her knowledge, high standards, and creative insight. That kind of experience doesn’t just shape careers, it builds confidence, trust, and the kind of attention to detail that clients instantly recognise.

Erin’s training is also supercharged by the fact that HITC is a Keune Brand Ambassador salon. This means that Erin and the rest of the team benefit from regular training sessions directly with Keune educators. It keeps everyone up to date with the latest techniques and ensures the entire team know how to get the absolute best results from Keune’s colour and care products, something our clients love us for.

Once Erin completes her Level 5 qualification, she’ll officially become a Graduate Stylist and begin running her own client column. That’s a huge step, and we’re already seeing glimpses of the stylist she’s growing into.

In fact, Erin is already offering services to clients in the salon. Because she’s still technically classed as a trainee, even though she’s more than capable, you can currently book in with her at rates that are lower than our graduate stylist prices. Her popular trainee long smooth blow dry, for example, is just £20.00.

Importantly, every service Erin offers is fully supported by the wider HITC team. She’s supervised by our experienced stylists and closely overseen by Louise, ensuring that every client receives the same high standard of care and results we’re known for across the salon.

Erin is about to be signed off by her college, and once that happens, she’ll officially step into her new role as a Graduate Stylist. When that happens, her prices will be updated to reflect her new status, in line with the rest of our graduate team.
